The Past

"My love of dogs began
with a vengeance when I was 15 yrs old and got my first puppy - a
pekingese called Misty, from a lovely breeder called Betty. I had Misty
for about a year and then came Lucky, another pekingese from the same
breeder.
After several years together, suddenly Lucky turned the wrong way in
play and ended up paralysed from the neck down. It was a very hard
decision for me, but little Lucky had to go to Doggy Heaven. Misty lived
on for a few more years but then passed away suddenly during a routine
dental procedure. I was devastated and could not even think about
getting another puppy for quite some time.
Eventually, I discovered cavaliers and a new love affair began. After
several vain attempts, we found a breeder who said they had 2 male
puppies available. I was so excited, but still very wary to get another
dog, as I knew how attached I got to them. After a few soul-searching
days of whether or not we really did want another puppy (after all, a
dog is a lifetime commitment), we went to Kingscourt Cavaliers to see
their boys and ended up bringing both home - enter Kane and Kyi. After a
while we had to separate the 2 brothers, so both were desexed and Kane
now lives a spoilt, healthy life with my Mum.
Kyi is still with us as a very much loved and valued family pet.
The cavalier bug had bitten us by now and we decided to join the CCCQ,
blissfully unaware of what we were in for in the world of cavaliers and
dog showing. We were lucky enough to find a breeder who sold us our
first wholecolour - a black and tan bitch Called Keisha,
so we started from there and soon found another girl, a tricolour, on
the Sunshine Called Mia, who also came to live
with us.
From here on we went downhill in our attempts to learn more about our
beautiful breed and showing in general. We listened to bad advice and
took all the wrong turns we could take. We produced some puppies still
knowing very little about the breed and, despite several attempts to
seek help, we found the cavalier world far from helpful or encouraging.
However, this only had the effect of increasing our determination to
succeed.
We then found Darryl who offered to let us adopt our beautiful little
blenheim girl, Chrisindy Cherry Pie. He said he had had to start
somewhere so he gave us the chance we needed to make our own start in
the ring. She had a lovely pedigree and had lots to like about her but
she hated the show ring, so Dotti came to live with us and our lives
changed again. There are some nice show people out there after
all........
Oh how times change once you find your feet and can focus towards the
future........"
